The Eagle Ridge Golf Club will host a golf tournament and banquet dinner Friday in memory of City of Gilroy employee David Vogel.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start and four-person scramble format.

Participants can enjoy beer and wine during happy hour beginning at 6 p.m., with a barbecue buffet dinner at 7 p.m.

The entry fee is $80 per person for the entire event, or $40 for the happy hour and dinner portions.

Those wishing to sign up for the event can contact Stuart Cain at 847-9770 or St*********@***oo.com, or Joel Jessel at 710-0559 or Jo*********@*dc.com.

As of Tuesday morning, 90 people had signed up for the tournament and more than 100 had purchased dinner tickets, according to Cain.

Jessel said the community’s response had been “unbelievable.”

“Unfortunately, we’ve had to start turning people away for the golf part,” he said.

He said there would likely be enough food to serve 175 people.

Proceeds will go to a college scholarship fund for Vogel’s 10-year-old daughter, Samantha. Checks are payable to Eagle Ridge Men’s Club.

Vogel, 40, a city maintenance worker, died March 14 after he was struck by a car while performing street inspections. He was recalled by friends and family as an avid golfer.

Those who cannot attend but still want to make donations can give to the David Vogel Memorial Fund.

The Eagle Ridge Golf Club is located at 2951 Club Drive in Gilroy.
