Give blood and save lives

Gilroy – On Nov. 7, the American Red Cross and the Gilroy Community joined together to hold a blood drive and reached 112 percent of the goal to collect 42 pints of blood. Fifty-seven potential donors turned out to achieve that goal.

Each pint of blood is used to save up to three lives, so the Gilroy blood drive will help 141 people in Northern California to survive physical traumas and fight potentially fatal diseases.

“The Gilroy community has enthusiastically supported the critical need for blood by providing more pints of blood than expected for a community its size,” said Sara O’Brien, Red Cross spokeswoman.

The next mobile blood drive in Gilroy will be on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave. from 1:30 to 6:30pm.
