Red Phone:
Gilroy Police Department’s Joseph Crivello became Cpl. Crivello about six months ago. Many of his duties now require supervising and training, so he hasn’t been spending as much time on the bike as he did before.
But never fear, good caller! On Fridays you can still catch him working traffic enforcement during the day – on the motorcycle.
Up in arms
“I’m just wondering why the police department won’t do a simple job that you ask them to do when they’re supposed to be working for you. I live right across from Miller Park and every time I call them to shut down these guys with the loud music, they just drive right by like it’s no big deal. They’re all drinking beer and it’s ridiculous. You have no idea what I have to put up with. I need to get something across to them. They’re not doing their job. They just don’t care anymore. Thanks.”

“Children accused of vandalism shouldn’t serve jail time. Give them to me. Make them work and clean up their mess. I tell you what, I spent last Friday night sleeping in the parking lot of Rod Kelley School and I chased kids away. I took their pictures and I told them they had to get out of there. I was accused of racism. … I stayed down there and it’s just gotten so out of hand. No, they shouldn’t serve jail time, they should be made to clean up their mess. They should be made to wear a T-shirt that says ‘I vandalized school property paid for by your tax dollars.'”

Interesting. Red Phone says be careful out there, caller. Good for you for taking action, but Red Phone can think of other ways it, personally, would prefer to spend its Friday nights. Thanks for the call.
Old City Hall Clock
The Red Phone has once again been notified – by several callers – that the Old City Hall clock is not working. The city seems to be on a roller coaster ride with the old timepiece. In a July column, Red Phone was told by the city’s Mike Dorn that the clock was operational, simply needed to be wound. At that time, Dorn said he would attempt to get access and wind the clock. It worked since that time, so Red Phone is taking a stab that the clock simply needs wound again. It has recently attempted contact with the city to check on the clock, but has yet to hear back. Until further notice, the Old City Hall clock is – once again – on hold.
