Dear Editor,
This is in response to Little League President Jeff Sosa’s letter published April 19. He states that “local businesses – screen printers – in Gilroy could not handle the large order of uniforms to be delivered in the course of five weeks.”
That is rather amusing, since we at Gilroy Screen Printing have successfully delivered 500 custom-printed shirts and caps to NASA in a period of five days. We have delivered 6,000 plus bags to Gilroy Foods/Olam and another 900 items to the Alameda Realtors Association, etc. within a two-week period, just to mention a few.
We also do not charge for screen printing. Sosa stated that Gilroy Little League’s Bay Area vendor does not charge. It’s not that it is free, but the profit is built into the sale of the apparel. All we are asking is to give us a chance in the bidding process. It has been 10 years since we were given the opportunity to bid.
If any of the local vendors were able to succeed in obtaining the Gilroy Little League contract, then do you not agree it would be a win-win situation for all concerned? We all shop locally and support our local economy, including helping our city tax base. We support fundraisers at St. Mary, Christopher High and Gilroy High spaghetti feeds, etc. We donate to Relay for Life, as well as donating custom artwork for schools and non-profit organizations.
We are not demanding unrealistic expectations from the league, just the chance to be asked to submit a quote.
Let’s do away with the rhetoric and try to work in unity instead of being hypocritical against each other.
