Just as they had done all season, Christopher’s Jacob Moen and Gilroy’s Brandon Boyd continue to top the list.
Moen and Boyd were named the Monterey Bay Pacific League Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year, respectively. Both also earned first team honors. Nineteen Gilroy-area athletes earned 21 MBL awards, which were announced Monday.
Moen helped lead the Cougars (7-4) to a Central Coast Section playoff berth with 162 tackles in his junior campaign.
Earning Offensive First Team earning honors Christopher are Rayshon Mills (1331 yards on 159 carries with 13 touchdowns), offensive lineman Mark Riffle and wide receiver Alex Pachecho (24 catches, 364 yards and six touchdowns). Boyd and offensive lineman Darius Alexander-Jones join their crosstown counterparts with First Team honors. Gilroy QB David Munoz was named the Sophomore of the Year.
Christopher quarterback Sterling Montgomery and wide receivers Max Sanford and Tyler Fhurong were named Second Team All-League as was Gilroy wide-reciever Riley Filice-Hollar.
Defensively, Moen and teammates Trevor Hadnot (defensive back) and Nate Silva (defensive line) were named First Team All-League. Gilroy linebacker Julian Carbajal and defensive back Jimmy Pena were named to the Second Team and are joined by Christopher defensive linemen Victor Sevillano and Jacob Zimmerman.
Andre Arroyo and Isaiah Madalora were given the Sportsmanship Award for Christopher and Gilroy, respectively.
