Elena Rubio

Each month, the principals of Gilroy and Christopher high schools choose a total of four students (two from GHS and two from CHS) to spotlight. CHS senior Elena Rubio, 17, is this week’s Student of the Week.

What inspires you? My Dad inspires me the most. He works hard to provide for our family and still finds time to give back to the community by coaching soccer with the City league. I strive to do my best and accomplish as much he has in his career and in the community.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why? History. I enjoy learning about different periods and struggles the country went through to get to where it is today.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be? If I could can one thing into world I would change the way politicians work. If they would just collaborate together towards solutions they could get so much more accomplished.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go? If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Disney World, “The Happiest Place on Earth”. It has always been a goal of my family to go to Disney World. We are planning to go when my younger sister, Audra, graduates from CHS in 2019.

Name one big challenge in your life right now: Right now my biggest challenge is finding ways to manage my time so I get everything on my plate completed. From AP classes, applying for scholarships, helping to plan ASB events to starting to work again, I realize that time management is crucial to surviving the rest of my senior year.

What is your dream job? I am still working to figure that out. I hope that I will be able to contribute and be creative in whatever field I choose.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? If I was stuck on a deserted island I would want to have duct tape; it fixes everything, a solar powered radio; so I wouldn’t have to worry about running out of batteries, and food.

Favorite book: I love to read, so picking a favorite book is really hard.

What do you want to do after high school? I plan to go to college and major in Business Administration.

Something that makes you smile: I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
