Gilroy Police Department want people to be on the lookout for a silver, four-door Saturn Sedan, bearing California license plate 4YBD579, stolen during a carjacking July 8 on the 700 block of El Cerrito Way.
The victim, a 44-year-old local man, was pushed out of the way as he tried to prevent his vehicle from being stolen shortly after 7 a.m. He had left his vehicle unattended for a short time with the engine running, according to Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.
The victim explained how two men in a Black Lexus had arrived at his residence before one got out and took his car. The suspect that physically attacked the victim is still on the loose and described as a Hispanic male, roughly 155-pounds and roughly 5 feet 7 inches in height, Espinoza said.
GPD officers apprehended the driver of the Black Lexus after he crashed on U.S 101 in an attempt to evade arrest. He has been named as 24-year-old Cesar Garcia of Modesto, Calif. The Black Lexus was an unreported stolen vehicle from San Jose. Property belonging to the owner was found inside the vehicle. Garcia was taken into custody after he crashed the Lexus just south of Gilroy and attempted to flee on foot, said Sgt. Espinoza.
GPD is reminding community members to not leave running vehicles unattended.
