SAN JOSE – Ahead 1-0 in the second half, the Gilroy High varsity boys soccer team watched its lead evoporate in a 2-1 loss to non-conference opponent Yerba Buena on Thursday in San Jose.
The defeat is the first of the year for the Mustangs, who sit at 4-1-1 overeall and 1-0 in the Tri Country Athletic League.
David Orozco broke a 0-0 tie 5 minutes into the second half, the assist coming from Jonathon Diaz De Leon.
However, Yerba Buena answered back two minutes later and sealed the contest, converting on a penalty kick later on in the half.
The Mustangs play Santa Clara as part of the annual Homestead Christmas Cup at 1:45 on Saturday, needing a win or tie to advance to the semifinals.
The game will be played at Oak Grove.
