Gilroy police arrested a woman for drunken driving during a DUI checkpoint Friday, June 8 at Tenth Street and Alexander Street, near Orchard Supply Hardware.

Gilroy resident Rosanna Feola, 38, drove through the checkpoint around 11:25 p.m. in a silver 2000 Toyota 4Runner after allegedly consuming enough alcohol to warrant a DUI arrest. Feola was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.

In addition, 31 drivers were cited for driving without a license, and six cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license. One warrant arrest was made. A total of 472 cars passed through the checkpoint.

“We think it was very successful, not only because we made a lot of contact with drivers, but because it helped raise awareness in the community as well,” said Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.

The next DUI checkpoint has not been announced to the public, but Gallacinao said police plan to conduct a few more this year, especially as summer months tend to reap a high number of drunk drivers.

Just down the way on Monterey Road and Rucker Avenue, on June 9, California Highway Patrol conducted their own DUI checkpoint but did not make any arrests.
