With the help of Lori Franke, Fabian Pineda, 7, plays a violin

Children, come one, come all to the Wheeler Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for a free hands-on art event called Kids Discover Art sponsored by the City of Gilroy.

Children ages 5 through 11 are welcome to try more than 20 different workshops during the festival-like atmosphere led by volunteer artists in the community.

This event is free of charge so children from all economic backgrounds have the opportunity to attend, along with it acting as a wonderful venue for local artists and volunteers to share their talents with participants in a non-threatening, non-competitive environment.

Workshops will explore: Caricature drawing, scrimshaw, hands-on clay, pastel impressions, charcoal drawing, creature collage, watercolor painting, paper-making, recycle art, cookie creations, quilling, design a stamp, Japanese origami, Suzuki violin, creative caps, beaded books, printmaking, curio craft frames and green thumb gardening.

Wheeler Community Center is located at 250 W. Sixth Street.
