Gilroy – Police arrested three people on drug and other charges following a traffic stop on the 7300 block of Maple Drive.

An officer saw drugs in the car between two of the passengers, although neither claimed ownership, police said.

Stephanie Marie Rossi, 24, of 550 E. Eighth St. #2, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for failure to appear.

Raymond Chavez, 24, of 279 Churchill Place, was arrested during the 3:26am Tuesday stop on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous or deadly weapon, both felonies. Chavez, who is on parole, also was booked for a parole violation, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and on another misdemeanor warrant.

The dangerous weapon in the car was a baseball bat. There was no other baseball equipment in the car, said Sgt. Kurt Svardal.

“The way it was set up, the officer believes the bat was not for playing baseball,” Svardal said.

A third man, Gabriel Joseph Castro, 23, of 420 Burke Drive, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, and on a misdemeanor warrant for failure to pay a court-ordered fine.
