Seeking 30 for summer mainstage musical
Gilroy – The Odyssey Theatre Company of Gilroy High School announces its summer production of the musical “Li’l Abner.” The show is based on the classic comic strip by Al Capp and features all the characters of Dogpatch, USA. This is our big summer musical and we are looking for a big cast (30 plus members) ages 13 and up. There are great parts available for people of all ages. Audition info:
What: Prepare 16 bars of a song to sing. Bring sheet music in your key. Also be prepare to move/dance.
Who: Anyone between the ages of 13 and 99. Age appropriate casting.
Where: Gilroy High School Theatre
When: Auditions are Wednesday and Thursday, June 21 to 22 at 6:30 pm; rehearsals are Monday through Thursday starting June 26; performances are from Aug. 18 through Sept. 9

Scrapbooking Class for Teens Free at Library
Gilroy – Teens are invited to meet at the Gilroy Library on Saturday, June 17 from 2 to 4pm for a free scrapbooking program. Every library in the Santa Clara County Library system will be hosting a teen scrapbooking program this summer. The teen services librarian at the Morgan Hill Library, Nichole Pereira, is also a professional Scrapbooker and will be teaching teens to make their own scrapbooks.
Scrapbook your memories from prom, graduation, summer vacations, or friendships. This is a free program and all materials will be provided.

Civic Fun – Come Join the Sister City Group
Gilroy – People interested in participating in Gilroy Sister Cities activities are invited to an open meeting.
We have tentative confirmation that we will have delegations for Takko-Machi Japan, Koror, Republic of Palau and Saint Clar, France during the Garlic Festival. In the fall we are expecting a delegation from Angra do Heroismo, Portugal, as well as a group of students from Takko-Machi Japan.
The Gilroy Sister Cities Association is looking for host families during the Garlic Festival and for volunteers for the Sister Cities Booth at the Garlic Festival. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 13 at 7pm in the IFDES Portuguese Hall, 250 Old Gilroy Street.
Gilroy has six sister cities: Takko-Machi, Japan; Angra do Heroismo, Portugal; Saint Clar, France; Tecate, Mexico; Monticelli d’Ongina, Italy; Koror, Republic of Palau.

10 and Under for Garlic City Softball Squad
Gilroy – The Local Garlic City Bandits Tournament Sports Organization will be hosting tryouts for girls 10 and under softball team on Thursday, June 15 at 6:30pm. Competitive girl’s softball team will compete throughout the summer in various Bay Area Locations. The coaching staff lis ed by Live Oak Alum Kristin Alvarado, member of 2001 CCS Softball Championship team and ACU Regional College Softball Championship team.   Please call 847-8300 for location information.
Sunny Summer Sunday Concert Series Opens
Gilroy – The city’s Community Services Department presents Summer Concerts in the Park, a series of free concerts, held the 2nd Sunday of each summer month, through Aug. 13.
The first is Sunday from 5 to 7pm at Christmas Hill Park and features the rock and soul sounds of the Silicon Valley Houserockers.
The event is fun for the entire family. Enjoy a wonderful evening of music in a beautiful outdoor setting. Pack along a picnic dinner, and come help “kick-off” the summer series.
Other shows include: the country sounds of Silver Creek July 9, and the ’50s and ’60s sounds of The Corvairs Aug. 13.

Plan to Go Fly a You Know What at the Park
Gilroy – Experience the color and excitement of Kite Flying on Saturday, June 17, and let’s see how many kites we can fly up at Pacheco Pass. The Fifth Annual Family Kite Day will be held at Pacheco State Park, in a big windy field. Action is from 11am to 3pm.
Everyone who flies a kite will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. There will be other fun activities including a ‘Make Your Own Kite Free’ table and free face painting, as well as Pie Eating Contests, Bubble Gum Blowing Contests and a “candy-drop” kite. The only fee is the $5 state park Day Use Fee. From Gilroy, take Highway 152 east to the top of Pacheco Pass to Dinosaur Point Road. The entrance to the park is just to the right.
