The Gilroy Police Department has been inundated with credit card fraud cases over the weekend. During the investigation of these cases, it was learned the majority of victims used their credit/ATM cards at the Valero gas station, located at 1190 First Street, in Gilroy.
With the help of the Regional Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT), a skimming device was located within the housing of gas pump #2. It was not visible from the outside of the gas pump. The skimming device was removed at about 10:00 a.m. today. The other gas pumps were checked and no additional skimming devices were found at the location.
By best estimation, the skimmer was active at its location for at least a week, possibly longer, until its removal earlier today. If you recently purchased gas using a credit card/ATM at the gas station, check your bank statements to ensure there are no unauthorized purchases or money withdrawals.
Any additional victims are encouraged to call the Gilroy Police Department at 408-846-0350.
