wondering where it was coming from.
A strange smell throughout Gilroy Tuesday had some residents wondering where it was coming from. Although police and fire dispatchers did not receive any calls regarding the unusual odor, one dispatcher said the cause may be from the Z-Best Composting Facility southeast of U.S. 101. ‘The compost piles off of Highway 25 are not too far from the city,’ she said. ‘If the wind hits just right, that’s where the odor is coming from.’ And on Tuesday, the wind was blowing in the opposite direction it usually does – to the north, rather than the south.
