Suniga qualifies for Zone Championships
RANCHO CORDOVA – The Morgan Hill Gymnastics Club competitive team traveled to Rancho Cordova on Sept. 21 to compete in the High-Tech Invitational. The local tumblers finished with six individuals in the top 10 and five in the top 20 of the all-around scoring.
Ten-year old Amanda Suniga – whose all-around tally qualified her for the Zone Championships in November – placed ninth at Level 5 for ages 9-10. She finished eighth on beam, ninth on floor, 11th on vault and 13th on bars.
Teammate Melina Sagor – a 10-year-old at Level 5 – finished 18th in the all-around by placing 17th on both beam and vault and 18th on both floor and bars.
At Level 4 for ages 7-8, Samantha Laird, 7, placed eighth in the all-around by finishing fourth on floor, eighth on both beam and bars, and 12th on vault.
Seven-year-old teammate Caroline Seifert, also competing at Level 4, took 11th in the all-around with a fifth-place mark on floor, a sixth-place mark on vault, and a seventh-place mark on beam.
In the eight-year-old division at Level 4, tumbler Jordan Fedalizo finished 12th in the all-around by placing third on vault, eighth on floor and ninth on beam.
Eight-year-old teammate Alexis DeHaven – who is recovering from a shoulder injury and only competed in one event – still managed to pull out a fourth place win on the balance beam for 14th in the all-around.
For ages 9-10 at Level 4, nine-year-old Alex Saquella finished third in the all-around – including first place on vault with a high score of 9.475. Saquella also placed third on beam, fourth on floor and sixth on bars.
Ten-year-old Emelie Hertz took fourth in the all-around by placing third on floor, fourth on beam, fifth on bars, and 13th on vault.
Nine-year-old Danielle Risner finished ninth in the all-around with a fourth-place showing on bars, ninth on floor, 12th on beam and 16th on vault.
Teammate Jamie Webb, 9, placed 15th in the all-around by scoring eighth on vault and 11th on both floor and beam.
At Level 4 for ages 11 and up, Jaclyn Dixon, 12, took fifth in the all-around by placing fourth on vault, fifth on beam, sixth on floor, and ninth on bars.
