DEAR EDITOR:

In reading the STAR Car article in the Sept. 19 Dispatch I was taken aback by Fire Chief Jeff Clet’s quote of an average ambulance response provided by AMR at being 12 minutes.

Our Paramedic Transport contract with the county of Santa Clara requires a response time performance of 12 minutes 90 percent of the time. Obviously, if we were performing at an average of 12 minutes then we would be at a 12-minute response compliance of only 50 percent and would be in jeopardy of forfeiting the contract. Our actual response time in the city of Gilroy is 5:44 minutes.
