Andersen died of congestive heart failure on Saturday, Aug. 7,
2004 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Palo Alto.
He was 82.
Andrew “Andy” Andersen died of congestive heart failure on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Palo Alto.

He was 82.

Mr. Andersen was born on Nov. 7, 1921, in Knightson. He graduated from Gilroy High School and attended San Jose State College on a football scholarship for two years. He volunteered for the United States Air Force during World War Two.

After the war, he resided in San Joaquin Valley where he owned his own business as an ice cream distributor for 40 years. He retired in 1992, making his home in Salinas.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 and the Antique Car Club of America, Salinas Valley Region.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Gilbert) Andersen; children, Gary Gilbert of Salinas, and Joyce Edwards, also of Salinas; grandchildren, Robert Gilbert, Brad Gilbert, Chad Gilbert, Greg Zelei, Nichelle Zelei, Tracie Rossi and Jeremy Van Horn; as well as several great-grandchildren. Also, special friends Dennis and Anna Lisher, of Los Gatos.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St. in Salinas.
