‘Twas the night before Christmas in Olde Gilroy
Not a latte was stirring, not even on 5th Street
Gold Toe at the Outlets awaited with stockings
St. Nicholas, sadly, was still Amazon shopping
Guerrero “The Ghost” had hung up his gloves,
But Gilroy football won and had gotten lots of love
So did Christopher High, gridiron champions as well
Gilroy wrestlers, champs too, we’re happy to tell
The Garlic Festival won a Guinness record, it’s true
Welcomed Chef Giada, installed president Todd too
Great Wolf sniffed around and teased a water park
Then turned sights elsewhere, leaving us in dark
After a nationwide search for a new police chief,
We found him right here, congrats Scott Smithee
The department got sued over some kinky parties
When cops get out of line, who calls the authorities?
Neighbor Hollister filled warehouses with cannabis seed
Gilroy bucked the trend and continued to ban weed
A hundred acres burned in the hills near Eagle Ridge,
The fire fighters stopped it, thanks more than a smidge.
There was some flooding down along Pass Hecker,
And we said farewell to Councilman Paul Kloecker
Craft cocktails arrived with the Bartenders Union,
So did Gilroy Pride, the parade welcomes all humans
This little annual rhyme lets us pause and remember
What a year it’s been, yes, we made it to December!
Warm wishes to all, we can relax, the holidays are here
Please celebrate safely, we’ll see you next year.
