Someone said there was a golf tournament here? The Frys.com Open, the Silicon Valley’s first PGA Tour event, started Thursday at CordeValle in San Martin. One hundred and 32 professionals are in town for the spectacular, which carries a $5 million purse, and $900,000 to the winner. The Dispatch will provide round by round coverage and twitter updates throughout the weekend.
Help keep jazz alive in the South Bay: Musicians in the Bay Area who have performed at D’Vine Jazz & Wine are rallying together to host a fundraiser concert from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a professional jam session scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 17. Kaye Bohler will be the headliner. Other bands include John Worley and Eric Bolvin (trumpet), Nate Pruitt (blues and jazz vocalist), Kat Parra (Latin Jazz vocalist), Rory Snyder and Noel Catura (saxophone). 21+. Get in the box:Christopher High School students and faculty alike will kick off the school’s Black Box Theatre production season with the comedy “The Memorandum,” by Czech playwright Vaclav Havel. The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the CHS Black Box Theatre, 850 Day Road. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at odysseytheatre.org.
Classic wheels: Antique cars will be on display during the 18th Annual California Autumn Classic Saturday and Sunday in downtown Morgan Hill. Details: Bill Meade at (831) 722-3266 or autumnclassic.100mregistry.com.
End of the Renaissance Last weekend. That’s it. Experience the Northern California Renaissance Faire. Casa de Fruta, off Highway 152, has been transformed into “Willingtown” a fictional 16th Century village. Festivities are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
