After years and years of being treated to brunch on Mother’s Day, maybe all mom really wants this year is something creative.
Take her to Silicon Valley Open Studios, an event where local artists open their studios to the public for a weekend, allowing them to see what goes on behind the scenes. Many artists will also be selling their work, and because there’s no middle man, prices are usually lower than at galleries.
The event will take place in Gilroy and Morgan Hill on Saturday and Sunday. Local artists include Richard Starks from Gilroy, and Marie-Christine Briot-Connolly, Sheri Chakamian, Dixie Lee Howe, Laurie Kruger, Jerri Kuehn, Marge Regan, Anne Rosenzweig and Satu Viitanen, all from Morgan Hill.
Tour hours are 11am-5pm. To get a map of where the artists live, go to www.svopenstudios.org or call (888) 330-6177.
Silicon Valley Open Studios is divided into three weekends. Last weekend featured artists who live in north Santa Clara County, and May 20 and 21 will feature artists who live in San Mateo County.
This year marks the event’s 20th year. More than 350 artists in total will participate. For more information, go to www.svopenstudios.org.
