ert William Baty, 75, of Canby, OR passed away peacefully at home with his family on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Bert was born in Bakersfield, CA on October 11, 1949 to David “Bill” Lynberry Baty, Jr. and Beuanna Rose (Burdick) Baty. He grew up in Gilroy, CA and attended Gilroy High School before joining the Marines in April 1967. Bert served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1971. In 1978, he reenlisted, this time in the Army, and worked in Oregon, Illinois, and Kentucky as a recruiter and an investigator. After he was honorably discharged again in 1994, he and his family moved back to Oregon and settled in Canby. Bert then worked for the Canby School District for 19 years.
Bert enjoyed taking care of his family and spoiling his cats. He gardened every year because he preferred tomatoes that actually tasted like tomatoes and he liked watching television, especially the news, football, golf, old movies, and British detective shows.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings David Lee “Sonny” Baty, Darrell Baty, Shirley Anderson, Robert Baty, and John “Ted” Baty. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and children, Nathan and Susan, as well as his brothers Steve of California and Jack of Missouri and his sister Beuanna of California.
Bert will be interred at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
