After months of planning, the founders of Gilroy Prep School, a proposed charter school slated to open in August 2011, pending school board approval, will bring their petition before trustees and the community at a public hearing. Trustees will consider their proposal and cast their votes at a subsequent board meeting.
Now that Christopher High School is open to ninth through 11th graders, and will expand to all four grade levels next year, trustees will take another look at the high school boundaries. The boundary committee will propose two alignments. One option would run along Hecker Pass Highway, First Street and IOOF Avenue, with students to the north going to Christopher High and students to the south going to Gilroy High. The other option is almost identical except it would send about 60 additional students in the area of Burchell Road and Hecker Pass to Gilroy High School, instead of Christopher.
Trustees will also consider creating a fourth middle school option and ratifying contracts with various organizations for staff development and technology.
