Not wearing a helmet, teen suffers severe head injury

A 16-year-old boy, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a severe head injury after he fell while skateboarding on a steep hill off Mantelli Drive Tuesday night around 6 p.m., according to the Gilroy Police Department.

“Dear Red Phone, I’d like to know why Gilroy police don’t do a better job patrolling and monitoring the Gilroy skate park, whereas Morgan Hill does a better job. My son can’t go to the Gilroy skate park without any interruptions between bikers and vandalism. What’s up with this?”

Police briefs: Felon found with stolen weapon

Pit bull kills Chihuahua: On May 13 at 3:35 p.m., witnesses reported that a male pit bull mix of the 8100 block of Springdale Court attacked and killed a neighbor Chihuahua. Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said it appeared that neither dog was on a leash. The owner of the pit bull surrendered the dog to be euthanized after the incident.

The Santa Clara District Attorney's office teamed with the Gilroy Police Department to create a public service announcement warning county residents about landscape scams.

Five police officers responded to a fight Wednesday night at 7:48 p.m. involving 10-15 people on the amphitheater at Christmas Hill Park on Uvas Parkway, leaving one person injured. 

10-year-old on bike struck by car, suffers severe injuries

A 10-year-old Gilroy girl suffered severe injuries after she was hit by car while riding her bike on Westwood Drive near First Street around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. She was not wearing a helmet.
