Don Gage, Santa Clara Valley Water District director and former Gilroy mayor, confirmed Thursday that he is running for mayor, adding another player to an already complicated race for the seat.

Two Garlic Capital natives who previously gave the public a solid “no” when asked if they would run for mayor in 2012 have re-opened the door of possibility, meaning Gilroy’s mayoral candidates could potentially double.

Following Friday’s surprise news that Gilroy City Councilman Peter Arellano is exploring the possibility of joining the 2012 mayoral race, Don Gage, Santa Clara Valley Water District director and former Gilroy mayor said he’s thinking about dropping his name into the pool of candidates.

In 2000, Santa Clara County voters approved a special parcel tax to fund the 15-year Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Plan which provided funding for four major outcome areas.
