GILROY – A man was found dead Thursday afternoon in the underbrush near Uvas Creek, near an encampment where he and other homeless people were living, according to Gilroy police.

Police say they think the man, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, died of natural causes, but an autopsy by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will determine the precise cause of death.

A local man found the body near Uvas Creek, west of Santa Teresa Boulevard and reported it to police at 1:55 p.m.

The coroner estimated the man had been dead for 24 to 36 hours when found.
