The body that was found by a Santa Clara County Search and Rescue dog in a ravine off the side of a west Morgan Hill road has been identified as a 56-year-old man from San Jose. He committed suicide by firearm, according to the county sheriff’s department.
A loaded Ravens Arms .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol was found with him.
His body was found about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday after search and rescue staff and a K-9 search dog from the sheriff’s office spent the previous night and all morning trying to find him, Sgt. Troy Smith said.
There was no indication of foul play, Smith said.
About 7 p.m. Tuesday night police received a call of a missing “at-risk” male adult in his 50s who suffered from an undisclosed medical condition, Smith said. His wife called in the report, and told police she last saw her husband about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, and he failed to return home or return any of her phone calls.
About 4 a.m. Wednesday deputies found the his abandoned vehicle on the side of the road near Uvas Road and Oak Glen Avenue, Smith said. The keys were still inside the car, which was unlocked.
He was found in a ravine about 50 yards from the abandoned vehicle, which was parked on the side of the road, Smith said. The early morning darkness and heavy brush in the area made the initial search difficult.
