The Gilroy High tennis team improved to 6-2 on the year in the Tri-County Athletic League with a 5-2 triumph over Monte Vista Christian High School on Thursday.
The Mustangs, whose match against the league’s first-place team, Salinas, was cancelled due to rain on Tuesday, are tied for second with Alvarez with one league match remaining before the league finals next week.
No. 1-singles player Vinh Vong easily handled his opponent with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The Mustangs also received wins in the No. 3-and No. 4-singles as Victor Vong (6-2, 3-6, 10-4) and Ryan Azad (6-2, 6-0) secured team points.
The No. 1-doubles team of Andrew Costa and Brandon Sumida won 6-4, 7-5, and No. 2-doubles, Joesph Leong and Tevin Voorhees rounded out the Mustangs’ scoring with a 6-1, 7-6(7-3) win.
GHS will travel to Hollister to take on San Benito on Thursday at 4 p.m.
