GILROY – Six wrestlers from Brownell Middle School earned medals at the Junior MidCal wrestling tournament last weekend held at Gilroy High School.
“All our kids are working hard this season, giving it their all,” coach Travis Sakamoto said.
Among the medal recipients were Trevor Marquez, Daniel Barboza, William Lugo and Julian Carbajal.
Barboza made it all the way to the championship round in the 125-pound weight class, finishing in second, which qualified him for a spot in the Tournament of Champions.
“This is a season of change for Brownell” coach Andres Barragan said. “They are proving to be contenders and are already a step above last year with their first three dual-meet wins against Herman, Murphy and Davis Middle Schools.”
