Four candidates under consideration
Gilroy – A panel of parents, teachers and district officials interviewed four candidates vying for the Brownell Middle School principal position at the district office Thursday.

The interviews took place between 8am to 2pm. Suzanne Damm is resigning from her position as principal but indicated that she’s interested in remaining in Gilroy as a teacher or in a position to help implement the district’s math plan, Superintendent Edwin Diaz said.

Damm didn’t return phone calls regarding her decision to resign from her post at Brownell.

More than 20 individuals applied for the position and the four interviewed yesterday were selected from that group. Whomever the panel recommends from Thursday’s pool will be interviewed for a second interview today with Diaz and all the assistant superintendents.

“They will only refer to me individuals who they feel comfortable … will do a good job,” Diaz said. “It could be one. It could be two. It could be zero.”

After the interview with administrators the district will perform in-depth background checks of the potential new principal and make a final recommendation to the board. The district is hoping to make a decision by the April 27 board meeting.
