Shutouts on both sides
GILROY – The Gilroy Browns split four games against Coyote Creek over the weekend as the Junior Midgets and Midgets each came out on top with shutouts while the Junior Pee Wees and Pee Wees both were on the losing end of shutouts.
The Midgets lifted their record to 2-1 on the season with their commanding 28-0 home victory at South Valley Junior High School. The offense was once again highlighted by the running of Mike Perez – who scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Connor Farotte flashed an accurate arm as he tossed two touchdown passes – one to Tony Lujan and the other to James Scaglioni. The scoring was started with a TD run by Anthony Knight.
The Midgets – which will host Santa Clara on Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. – also received a strong all-around defensive effort as the Browns allowed only one drive inside the red zone, where they forced and recovered a fumble.
With a 16-0 shutout over Coyote Creek, the Junior Midgets upped their Division I record to 2-0-1. The Junior Pee Wees dropped a 28-0 decision and the Pee Wees fell 25-0, both to Coyote Creek.
