A Gilroy woman and her car ended up perpendicular to the ground and propped up on a telephone pole support wire after she took a turn too sharply Monday morning.

Christine Delmonico, 18, escaped from the accident without injury, but had to wait for about two hours as tow truck drivers arrived and tried to figure out how to lower her teetering Volkswagen Beetle convertible off wires that support the telephone pole near the intersection of Castro Valley Road and U.S. 101.

In the end, two tow trucks tried to maneuver the car down, but could not do so without tipping it over onto its side. When that happened, the passenger side window broke, the passenger side mirror snapped off, the right front headlight popped out and the body of the passenger side was damaged.

According to Highway Patrol officer Kiuya Brown, a 911 call came in about 10:01 a.m. Delmonico took the turn too sharp because she was late to her class at Gavilan College and lost control of the vehicle.
