GILROY – The Gilroy Clippers earned the second-half Men’s C League title Friday with a 27-8 decision over the VFW Vets at Gavilan Sports Park.
Rob Flores, Daniel Vasquez and Joe Ojeda lined home runs as the Clippers finished the half with a 5-1 record. The Clippers open the best 2-of-3 Championship Series on Monday Aug. 11 against Interstate Fence.
Daniel Montenegro hit a three-run home run in the VFW Vets first inning for a 3-2 lead. Jose Hernandez hit two doubles to spark the Clippers to a 12-run second inning. Ojeda and Andrew Ornelas each went 4-for-4 for the winners. Jerry Nelson and Mike Gonzales each went 3-for-3 for the Vets.
Puzzle Systems, the DD first-half champion, outlasted Kenko Pipelayers 32-13. Brian Sullivan and Mike Leslie each hit three home runs for Puzzle, while Brock Prather hit two home runs and two doubles for Kenko.
Robert Muro and Shawn Hennessy each went 4-for-5 to propel Machinist Cooperative past Dan Keith Septics 18-12 Friday in Men’s DD League action at Christmas Hill Park.
Machinist erased a 4-1 deficit in the third inning with an eight-run outburst. Gosta Brolin stroked a three-run triple.
Eric Noma scored three Machinish runs. Rich Furtado hit a three-run home run and Brian Christensen went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for Dan Keith Septics.
Nick Ramos went 4-for-4 and scored four runs as 4-1 Family Affair defeated Me & Julio 14-9. Louie Martinez went 4-for-4 for the winners, David Lujan 4-for-5 for Me & Julio.
Mat Goossens singled home Gilbert Ramirez in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a 14-13 Tam HJ-FX win over JR Brewski’s. Skip Bloom homered in a 4-for-5 night for Team HJ-FX. John Weberg hit a three-run homer and a sacrifice fly for the Brew Crew.
Rich Pirozzoli went 4-for-5 and Jason Krulee and Jason Livingston added homers in a 20-14 Obata Farms (4-1) nod over the Playaz. Jamie Martinez went 4-for-5 and Gilbert Salgado homered for the Piaza.
David Chacon hit for the cycle in a 5-for-6 effort to lead 4-1 Little Pizzarena by Interstate Fence 34-11. Sean Subia went 4-for-4 and Willie Gamoba homered for Interstate Fence.
