Community Pulse: Support of a Farmer's Market

Could Gilroy do a better job of capitalizing economically on its
status as the Garlic Capital?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Could Gilroy do a better job of capitalizing economically on its status as the Garlic Capital?

– Yes. There is no signage in downtown proclaiming it as the Garlic Capital. If you come into downtown looking for a garlic restaurant you will have to look hard to find garlic dishes.

– We have the very successful Garlic Festival and it doesn’t get better than that. There are many media outlets who promote it. We also have our Visitors Bureau where the website gets thousands of hits per month. The Dispatch website gets 50,000 hits per month, too. So maybe it’s a good idea to promote the Garlic Capital every week in the Dispatch.

– Absolutely! Downtown Association and local businesses could get together and market themselves with the Garlic Capital theme! We need more branding!!!

– Yes. Creating a stronger “sense of place,” with signage, garlic icons and promoting business that feature garlic items to our tourists, are just a few of the things we can do to continue to maximize the brand impact.

– I think we tap it, and tap it well the last weekend in July!

– Of course it could do better, but an important first step is coming up with a more visitor-friendly downtown.
