THIS WEEK’S POLL: Will you vote for or against the Santa Clara Valley Water District’s 15-year, $548 million parcel tax measure on the November ballot?
- Absolutely not! The water district is out of control and property owners should not bear the burden.
- On the face of it, I would vote no. This organization has a history of mismanagement of our precious tax dollars. However, the target of this measure is repair of Anderson Dam. If there are controls and public oversight of the project, similar to the oversight of targeted bond issues, I will vote for it.
- Yes. It is difficult to grant more money for elected officials to have at their disposal. Yet I know that the Anderson Dam protect is in need of this financing to give it earthquake strength.
- I would vote against it. I would first like to see a transparent discussion about a serious cutting off expenses before more taxes are levied.
- Yes. Although I have traditionally supported education with tax dollars, it seems Anderson Dam is in need of serious repairs. Since it’s a countywide tax and spread around to more than just local residents, I will vote for it.
- Against. Considering the history of this agency’s resource waste, I don’t feel comfortable voting for a tax increase when there are another dozen or so I can choose from.
- For. This is a continuation of a 2000 voter enacted parcel tax intended to maintain existing water sources, waterways and infrastructure as well as new infrastructure projects. Gilroy will benefit from the continued funding of such projects as creek cleaning, graffiti abatement, flood control projects, Anderson Dam seismic retrofit and various clean water programs.
- No. On principle, voting no on all tax measures until agencies, counties,
- Sacramento get their wasteful spending practices in order.
- Against … I firmly believe when it comes to Water District officials, if their lips are moving they are lying!
- I’d like to support it, but the high salaries, the wasteful spending and terrible track record of the Water District prevent it. Yes I will vote for it. Some things are very necessary and this sounds like one of them.
