The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and Fact Fitness celebrated the opening of the new location on 7433 Monterey Street in downtown Gilroy during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

For over 20 years Kimberlee Rossi, owner of Leedo Art & Framing has been making Gilroy a bit more arty. The sign above the store at 7436 Monterey St. sums it up: “Because the earth without art is just eh!” a play on the letters in earth.

Gilroy’s Class of 2017 tallied record numbers in diplomas and scholarship dollars, including nearly a quarter of a million dollars from a mystery donor known only as “Uvas Creek.”

The scaffolding along the old Hall’s Building at Sixth Street in downtown Gilroy has come down as the transformation of the former clothing store into a restaurant with housing above continues apace.

Democratic Congressman Jimmy Panetta has moved forward on two initiatives to support the nation's agricultural industry. Panetta, who represents the 20th congressional district, which includes major growing regions in the Salinas and Pajaro Valleys and parts of Santa Clara Valley, has joined forces with Republican Congressman Rodney Davis of Illinois to establish the bipartisan Congressional Agriculture Research Caucus. The Caucus will focus on agriculture research, innovation, and mechanization efforts as Congress prepares for the 2018 Farm Bill.
