Gilroy – Police are seeking Daniel Duran, 41, a sex offender from San Jose who has been frequenting South County real estate offices. His aggressive behavior has prompted fear and suspicion among many of the people he has contacted.

In the past, Duran has contacted female home owners and real estate agents regarding property for sale in Pleasanton, making 30 such contacts.

Duran was seen in Gilroy in December 2006, speaking to a female homeowner.

Two weeks later, he returned and asked a male homeowner about the neighborhood. The man looked up Duran on the Megan’s Law Web site, discovered that he was a sex offender, and printed up fliers warning neighbors of his presence.

Recently, Duran was seen in Livermore, where he was driving a gold 2006 Nissan Altima. He was also seen multiple times in Morgan Hill last week.

There is no probable cause for Duran’s arrest, but police have notified the public due to Duran’s criminal history, which includes convictions for forcible rape and assault with intent to commit rape.

Gilroy Sgt. Jim Gillio cautioned that there is a Daniel Duran living in Gilroy, but he is not to be confused with the San Jose sex offender.

Anyone with information on Duran may call Detective Michael Beebe at 846-0350.
