The Garlic Festival will debut a cooking competition July 24 called the Master Chef Challenge at the Cook-Off stage. The contest has been created to honor Val Filice, who was the Master Chef of Gourmet Alley.

The “SakaBozzo” cooking team – made up of chef personalities Sam Bozzo and Gene Sakahara – has cooked at the festival for 17 years and will compete against a mystery Bay Area chef. Both teams will prepare their signature dish and then their oponent’s signature dish.

Six audience volunteers will serve as judges.
