Gilroy – County officials will honor St. Joseph’s Family Center next week for its efforts to feed disadvantaged families and the homeless, one of a group of awards given to local nonprofit groups and volunteers.

The awards ceremony, held June 2 in San Jose, is a tribute to the decades-long effort of Jim McEntee Sr. to promote peace, justice, and unity as the head of the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations.

“McEntee was a strong advocate for nonprofits and for the work the county was doing to address emergency needs and services,” said David Cox, executive director of St. Joseph’s. “I’m glad people think of our work here as being vital and important.”

St. Joseph’s is one of a group of five individuals and organizations nominated by county supervisors in each district. County officials also will give special recognition to a host of individuals and present a lifetime achievement award. The list of award winners includes the Arab-Jewish Dialogue Group and Californians for Justice.

“We’ve been distinguished on a few levels before locally,” Cox said. But at this level, it’s one of the first really prestigious awards we’ve received. To be in the same company as some of these to her organizations is an honor.”

The ceremony is 7:30 to 9:30am, June 2, at the Wyndham Hotel, 1350 North First Street, San Jose. Tickets are $50.
