an opportunity to receive an education on health care in honor of
the Santa Clara County’s sixth-annual Binational Health Week.

Though called a “week,” the focus on health education actually began Monday with an opening ceremony and runs through Oct. 20 and features workshops, health fairs, screenings and insurance referrals for “under-served immigrants from Latin America” in the county, according to the county website. Two events were held last weekend in Gilroy: one to address youths and another that provided free health screenings.
On Thursday, a conference addressing cross-cultural communication in health care for Mexican immigrants is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road. The cost to go is $30 and continuing education units are being offered for attendance.
On Oct. 16, a presentation in Spanish will explain ways to reduce the risks of memory loss and how to maintain an active mind in relation to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Childcare and lunch will be provided at this free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Learning and Loving Education Center, 16890 Church St.
