The Gilroy Rangers struggled offensively Wednesday night and couldn’t keep pace with the Santa Cruz Dodgers, losing 7-2.
With one loss, the Rangers will need to win tonight’s game against the winner of the Aptos vs. Watsonville game and then beat the Dodgers twice for the championship.
Tonight’s game is at 6pm at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz.
The Dodgers scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and then had a three-run home run to break it open in the sixth inning.
But the Rangers weren’t done. After Rapheal Garcia had a hit, Andrew Santiago launched a two-run home run.
“Hopefully we can carry that momentum into tomorrow night,” said coach Jim Pirnik.

One more game to go for the matchup everyone’s been waiting for – the all-Gilroy matchup.
The Gilroy Cubs defeated the San Lorenzo Valley Giants 5-3 Wednesday. Gilroy will play the Scotts Valley Reds, who they lost 5-3 to on Saturday, tonight at 5:30. The winner faces the Gilroy Yankees Friday night.
Bailey Schipper pitched the first four innings for Gilroy, allowing three runs. Brian Ranson finished it off.
Brendon Holler had two triples in his first two at bats. And Kenny Dipko had a double as part of a four-run first inning.
“They’re the best hitting team I’ve seen,” said coach Billy Holler. “They hit all the way up and down their lineup.”

The Gilroy Yankees kept up their end of the bargain by defeating Scotts Valley 5-3 Wednesday.
The Yankees await the winner of tonight’s winner between the Scotts Valley Reds and the Gilroy Cubs.
The Yankees had strong pitching from Jalynd Gallardo, who had a lot of balls put in play but usually right at the defense. Alex Vega, Travis Hill, Ryan Fredricks and Zachary Loo all had solid games behind Gallardo. The game ball went to center fielder Kyle Doughty, who had several catches to track down fly balls.
Gilroy scored a run in the first, second and third innings then scored two in the fourth. Scotts Valley scored a run in the first and two in the final inning.
Fredricks, Loo, Adam Gonzales provided the spark offensively. Base coaches Mitch Pierce and Mario Gallardo continued their aggressive coaching of runners that coach David Gallardo said has led to several runs after teams make bad throws.
