A resident of San Martin called police after stumbling across the body of a dead female, police said.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the resident about 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said. Deputies arrived and found the body on the ground, off the side of the road on Llagas Avenue.

The body was found along the tree line “a few feet from the roadway,” north of the intersection of Church Avenue, Sung said.

The victim’s identity will not be released until her next of kin have been notified, Sung said. The coroner’s office was performing an autopsy Monday afternoon.

Furthermore, the cause of the victim’s death is unknown, but Sung noted there are “no obvious signs” of foul play.

Authorities declined to say how long she might have been dead.

The resident who found the body was out walking with her husband, looking for her dog which had disappeared earlier, Sung said.

Anyone with information about this incident may contact Detective Sgt. Herman Leon at (408) 808-4500 or (408) 808-4401 after business hours. Those who wish to stay anonymous may contact the Sheriff’s tip line at (408) 808-4431.
