We all know that golf is a game of control. However, there are those certain holes when you really want to maximize your distance.

There are ways to squeeze a little extra distance out of your drives without buying the latest supercharged titanium graphite model for $500 and it all starts by adjusting your grip to maximize distance.

First of all, grip the club as high up as you can. This means even to the point that the “heel” of the palm of your left hand is hanging over the end of the club, which enable you to maximize the length of the club.

Secondly, make sure your hands take up a minimal amount of space on the club. Keep your fingers tight together and monitor your spacing to ensure there are no gaps between your fingers where you can see your grip.

If you can see some grip peeking through, it signals your fingers are too spread out and take up too much room on the club.

A “Ty Cobb” grip doesn’t work for long drives. You can even experiment with a double over lap grip; this is where you overlap two fingers instead of just one.

Once again, this minimizes the area the hands take up on the grip and creates a smaller fulcrum point which in turn maximizes club-head speed which – you guessed it – maximizes distance.
