Fire destroys mobile home

Gilroy – A fire seriously damaged a mobile home in Wagon Wheel Mobile Village, at 8282 Murray Ave.

Four engines from Gilroy Fire Department, along with a rescue vehicle, responded to a call from the resident of the home after a fire broke out in the wall about 12:30pm Sunday. The fire was likely caused by a short circuit in the wall, according to Division Chief Ed Bozzo.

The flames spread from the wall up to the ceiling, damaging the kitchen and slightly damaging the living area of the home. Estimated cost of the damage is unknown, according to the GFD.

No one was injured in the fire, and no other mobile homes caught fire, but one person in the affected mobile home was displaced because it is no longer habitable.

ASMS Band pizza fundraiser

Gilroy – Enjoy great pizza and salad today, from 11am to 10pm, at Red Brick Pizza and help raise funds for the Ascencion Solorsano Middle School Band at the same time.

Just drop your receipt into the jar after ordering your meal and ASMS Band will get twenty percent of all the proceeds. Red Brick Pizza is located across from Kohl’s in the Gilroy Crossing Shopping Center.

SM Lions Club Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Gilroy – The annual spaghetti dinner will be held Friday at the Lions Community Hall at 12415 Murphy Avenue in San Martin.

Dinner is served from 6 to 8pm with tickets available at the door. Adults $6, children 6 and younger $3.

There will be a country western dance from 8 to 9:30 pm.

Volunteer needed to help a child

Santa Clara County – Child Advocates of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties is looking for volunteers to speak up for abused and neglected children/youth placed in the foster care system.

Pianist to conduct workshop at academy

Gilroy – Monterey Street Music Academy presents pianist Scott Kirby, who will conduct a one-hour workshop for families today at 5pm, at the academy, located at 7423 Monterey St.

Kirby will speak about and perform his original works for piano solo as well as give insight to his life as a professional touring pianist.

He specializes in the performance of American musical styles including Classic and New, Creole and Terra Verde.

This will be his last California tour for some time, as he and his family are relocating to France (his wife’s native country) in 2005.

Admission is $10 for adults or $5 to youths younger 16. Seating is limited so reservations are required.

GHS choirs present fall concerts

Gilroy – The Gilroy High School choirs will present their annual Fall concerts Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. This is the choirs inaugural event for the 2004/2005 school year.

The program will feature the five choirs from Gilroy High School.

The choirs involve 160 students and are under the direction of Phillip Robb.

The concert will be held at St. Mary Church on the corner of Monterey and First street in Gilroy.

Doors will open at 7pm, and the concert will begin at 7:30pm.

There is a $3 donation at the door to help cover the costs for all of the choirs festival activities later in the year.
