Gilroy – The AARP Alive Driver Safety Program will be offered Saturday, Nov. 13. Refresh your driving skills with the nation’s first and largest classroom course for drivers 50 years and older.

Participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety, new DMV tests and laws. No tests will be given. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of the course. Class and materials are free. Minimal DMV charge for the certificate. Class location and time will be given upon registration.

CMAP hosts PSA day

Gilroy – Local television station Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is hosting their PSA Day Friday, Nov. 12 from noon to 6pm.

This is a free service for non-profits and governments agencies in Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista designed for creating general Public Service Announcements that have a long air-play lifetime.

CMAP’s goal is to help these organizations get the word out about what they do, or help deliver important community messages to viewers. To sign up for a 30-second production slot, just complete a registration form by 5pm Friday, Nov. 5.

SVCT presents ‘Once Upon a Mattress’

Spoof or proof?

Gilroy – The Library’s Ancestral Voices Lecture series invites the public to explore things that rattle, cry, and go bump in the night, during a talk entitled “Spoof or Proof: Paranormal Activity in Santa Clara County,” at 2pm Saturday.

Speaker, Gloria Young, is the author of There are no Ghosts in Santa Clara County, and the lead investigator for Ghost Trackers, a local paranormal investigative team.

The presentation will include slides and visual records of Ghost Trackers investigations and discoveries. This program is free and open to all. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent.

Cork equity preview

Morgan Hill – Guglielmo Winery is hosting a “Cork Equity Sneak Preview” Oct. 30 and 31, and Nov. 6 and 7, from 10am to 5pm both weekends.

Don’t miss this two-weekend opportunity to taste the newest Cavalcade Cellar red wine. Just drop by the tasting room and ask for a taste. Those unable to attend may also place a pre-paid order anytime before the event and Guglielmo will fill and hold the bottles for pick-up.

Flower Lovers’ Club

Morgan Hill – The Morgan Hill Flower Lovers’ Club, including Gilroy and San Martin, will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 12:30pm in the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road.

Margaret Johnson will give a presentation on the Morgan Hill Downtown Adopt-a-planter project. She is the coordinator for the project and will discuss the volunteers, plants and watering programs. The plants can be observed all along Monterey Road.

See a holiday classic

Gilroy – Gavilan College Children’s Theater presents “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens. The classic Christmas story with Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future will be brought to life in the Gavilan College Theater. Special guest artist Jim Cave stars, and weaves the story of Scrooge together with the skill of a master storyteller.

Specially scheduled educational shows during the day are convenient for schools and groups. Educational Shows begin Nov. 4 and are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday through Dec. 9. Educational shows start at 9:30am and include special school pricing at $3.50 per seat. Family Performances will be be presented December 3, 4, 10, and 11 at 7:30pm at Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
