GILROY – Gilroy Fire Department officials are calling a Saturday night structure fire on Church Street that nearly destroyed a duplex unit “suspicious.”

Capt. Ed Bozzo would not disclose many details about the fire since an arson investigation is underway. The fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Saturday night while no one was at home in the 7060 Church St. duplex.

Bozzo said the fire was contained to the one unit and no one in the neighboring duplex was hurt.

Bozzo said the owner of the duplex had been contacted, but, as of Monday, fire department officials had not made contact with the residents of the unit that burned.

Holiday bus schedule

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will hold their regular schedule for the following services on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 and New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31: VTA Buses and Light Rail, Express Buses, Light Rail Shuttles, Highway 17 Express and Airport Flyer Line 10.

On Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1 the following transporters will be out of service: Ace Shuttles, Highway 17 Express, Dumbarton Express, Light Rail Shuttles and Express Buses. Express 180, Airport Flyer Line 10 and VTA buses and Light Rail will run on a Holiday schedule. VTA will offer free bus and light rail rides from 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 31 to 11:59 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 1.

On Fridays, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 the following services will not be operating: Bus lines 44, 304, 305, 321, 328 and 330, Express lines 101, 102, 104, 122, 140, 501, 503, 520 and 521, and IBM and ACE Shuttles.

The VTA Customer Service Center will be available from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Downtown Customer Service Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Christmas and New Year’s Evenings. The VTA administration office, 3331 North First St., and the downtown Customer Service Center, 2 North First St., will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Days.

GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center will hold “Credit Card and Debt Reduction,” on Thursday, Jan. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at their office at Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., building E. The overuse of credit, credit cards, and poor credit histories are major problems that face many small business owners. Mary L. Gibson will show strategies to reduce debt and repair credit.
