SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is proposing to reduce bus and light rail services due to the continuing to decline economy. On Thursday, June 12, the VTA will hold public meetings in Gilroy and Morgan Hill to obtain public comments and discuss the proposed transit service reduction plan. The plan will be reviewed by the VTA Board of Directors on Aug. 7. If approved, the transit service reductions would go into effect on Oct. 13.

The general public is invited to attend these meetings. If you are unable to attend any of the public meetings, submit your comments in writing. Comments are welcome by phone:

Jazz at Juneteenth Fest

GILROY – The Kemetic Institute and Cultural Center presents the Gilroy Juneteenth Festival featuring renowned New Orleans sax and flute jazz artist, Frederick Sheppard. He will perform on Thursday, June 12, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Friday, June 13, from noon to 9 p.m. at the Kemetic Institute, 7469 Forest and Sixth streets. Write a business plan

GILROY – Good planning is the basis of any successful business start-up and a necessity for a loan application. This workshop will help in focusing on a marketing plan, financial projections and a strategic plan to put a business on the road to success. The workshop will be Thursday, June 12, from 5:45 to 9 p.m. at the Gavilan College Small Business Development Center’s office in the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., Building E.
