Former tourism chief moves to Salinas

Gilroy – Kirstin Carr, the former director of the Gilroy Visitor’s Bureau, has accepted a position as executive director of the Oldtown Salinas Association, a non-profit business group that promotes and enhances Oldtown Salinas through revitalization programs, marketing, business recruitment, community events and advocacy with local government.

The move comes after less than a year as the special assistant to the chief operating officer of San Jose State University. That job involved promoting the philanthropic and research goals of the university. She accepted that position in Oct. 2005, after five years of employment as Gilroy’s tourism chief.

Arts meeting postponed

Gilroy – The Gilroy Arts Alliance has postponed its Sept. 30 membership meeting to a later date. The organization has not yet specified a new date for the meeting, which is intended to introduce the Gilroy Arts Alliance to the community through multimedia presentations, fine arts displays, and performances by local musicians.

The GAA was formed in 2006 with assistance from the City of Gilroy. Its mission is to build a collaborative arts community to promote and support multicultural arts in and around Gilroy.

Literacy tutors needed

Gilroy – Vision Literacy needs tutor volunteers to help adults build their literacy skills. Vision Literacy is conducting tutor volunteer orientation Saturday at the Gilroy Public Library.
