MORGAN HILL – Residents are invited to attend the final public forum to learn about and discuss a possible bond measure to improve and expand Gavilan College facilities. A member of the Board of Trustees will chair each meeting, assisted by Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella. The forum will include a brief presentation, followed by a question-and-answer period and informal discussion.
The forum will be today at 7 p.m. (This will take place during the “public comments” section of the regularly scheduled board meeting.) at the Morgan Hill Unified School District Offices.
The purpose of the forums is to give the public an opportunity to learn more about Gavilan College, including facilities needs, and plans for the future, and to share their ideas and opinions with college officials. Details: 847-1400.
Driving safety refresher
GILROY – The American Association of Retired Persons is offering its 55 Alive Safety Program Saturday, Oct. 18, in Gilroy. The one-day class is the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher for motorists age 50 and older. There is a minimal DMV fee and no tests. GILROY – Gilroy High School Grad Night 2004 is sponsoring a Gidzich Pie fund raiser. The sale runs through Wednesday, Oct. 22. Flavors are Apple, Ollieberry and Pumpkin. Cost is $11 to $12.50 per pie.

CMAP hosts awards
GILROY – The Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is hosting its Membership Recognition Awards. CMAP will televise the awards Thursday, Oct. 16, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the Public Access Channel 20. The ceremony will recognize the active volunteers and producers for their contributions and include highlights from CMAP’s programming from the last year. Special tribute to Volunteer of the Year and Producer of the Year will also take place. Audition for ‘Red Hot Revue’
GILROY – The Gilroy Community Services Department and John Bisceglie are holding auditions for their upcoming production of “Red Hot Revue” on Monday, Oct. 20, at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. Auditions for ages 5 through 10 begin at 4:30 p.m., ages 11 through 14 at 6 p.m. and ages 15 to 25 at 7:30 p.m. Come dressed comfortably, but no sandals please. MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre is holding auditions for its upcoming play “Peter Pan.” Auditions for the adult roles of Hook and Mrs. Darling will be held the evening of Saturday, Oct. 18, by appointment. Men should be prepared to sing “Hook’s Waltz.” For ages 8 to 14 auditions will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. sign-in, auditions beginning at 7, and Saturday, Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m. sign-in for 10 a.m., 12:30 and 1 p.m. auditions.

GILROY – The Gavilan College Athletic Department invites the community to a night of casino fun on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2951 Club Drive. Apply for Rotary grants
GILROY – The Rotary Club of Gilroy is currently accepting applications for community grants. The Club has allocated approximately $20,000 to grant to local community agencies this year.
Grant applicants should:
• emphasize education and/or youth, with local focus in Gilroy,
• be an organization, not a person,
• have a broad-based impact, and a specific use for the money needs to be designated.
The Rotary Club of Gilroy has distributed more than $110,000 in community grants over the past six years. Applications can be obtained from the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, 7471 Monterey Road, or by calling Scott van Keulen at 842-5272 or Jay Baksa at 846-0202. An e-form is available. Safe Halloween fun
GILROY – Gilroy Presbyterian Church is having its first Harvest Fun Fest on Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church campus. There will be crafts, carnival games, hay rides, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating, dancing, hot dogs, and frunk or treats. Kids should come in costume. This is a free event for all to enjoy. Big Brothers Big Sisters Fund raiser dinner
SAN JOSE – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Clara County announces its annual fundraising dinner, Friday, Oct. 24, beginning at 6:45 p.m., located at the Fairmont’s Fourth Street Banquet Facility on the Top Floor of the Fourth Street Parking Garage, corner of Fourth and San Fernando, San Jose.
