Downtown flea market

GILROY – There will be a flea market in downtown Gilroy on Saturday, Oct. 18. The event will take place at the Lewis Street parking lot, at the corner of Monterey and Lewis streets.

Spaces are 9 feet wide by 20 feet deep. Setup is from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and the market continues until 3 p.m. The fee is $20 per space. Vendors must supply their own tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc. and are responsible for trash cleanup in their own space.

Help fly flag

GILROY – The Gilroy Exchange Club, in association with individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Gilroy, are in the process of purchasing and installing American flags along the Monterey Street Corridor between First and Tenth Street. Their goal is to place 100 American flags in time for Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11. These flags will also be flown for major national holidays.

Drilling for the completion of the poles will create minor inconveniences for some businesses along Monterey Street, your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

The total project cost is estimated at $17,500. Show your support for this patriotic project by making a contribution for the purchase of the flags and installation costs. All contributors are added to the donor list on The Gilroy Exchange Club’s letterhead upon receipt of a contribution or pledge. Make all checks payable to Gilroy Exchange Club, P.O. Audition for ‘Red Hot Revue’

GILROY – The Gilroy Community Services Department and John Bisceglie are holding auditions for their upcoming production of “Red Hot Revue” on Monday, Oct. 20, at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

Auditions for ages 5 through 10 begin at 4:30 p.m., ages 11 through 14 at 6 p.m. and ages 15 to 25 at 7:30 p.m. Come dressed comfortably, but no sandals please. No experience necessary, just be prepared to sing a short a cappella. Details: Cathy at 846-8836.

GILROY – The Dispatch, Community Media Access Partnership and Charter Cable TV will hold their televised question-and-answer forum on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the local TV studio on the Gavilan College campus. Place your bets on Rams

GILROY – The Gavilan College Athletic Department invites the community to a night of casino fun on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2951 Club Drive. The evening kicks off with cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres at 6:30 p.m., with casino playing beginning at 7 p.m. The proceeds will benefit the Gavilan College Rams student athletes. It’s a wonderful appearance

GILROY – Karolyn Grimes, or “Zuzu” of “It’s A Wonderful Life” will be making appearances in Gilroy on Sunday, Oct. 26. MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre is holding auditions for its upcoming play “Peter Pan.” Auditions for the adult roles of Hook and Mrs. Darling will be held the evening of Saturday, Oct. 18, by appointment.
