‘American Ideal’ opens
GILROY
– John Bisceglie’s newest musical, ‘American Ideal,’ opens
production on Friday, Jan. 24 at Old City Hall in Gilroy. The
performance runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at
2 p.m. through Feb. 16 with two bonus Sunday shows at 6 p.m. on
Feb. 9 and 16. All seats are $10. There is lim

Discover the arts

GILROY – Community Services is offering a combined beginning and intermediate level art workshop for children ages 7 to 12 years old. The workshop will include instruction in pencil, pen and ink, color pencils, watercolor pencils and felt pens. Four different media and basic techniques are taught using a sketchbook format. All supplies are provided by instructor JoAnne Robinson.

Robinson is a local artist who has been painting, drawing and creating for more than 20 years. She has sold many commissioned and original designs and has won numerous awards for her art. Her works are currently on display at Gallery Morgan Hill and Solis Winery in Gilroy.

Workshops will be Wednesdays, Jan. 22 and Feb. 12 from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. at the Willey Cultural Center. The workshop fee is $85 ($90 for nonresidents). Going to the game in style

MORGAN HILL – Kevin Murray, of Morgan Hill, will leave for the big game in style thanks to local Ace Hardware store, Johnson Lumber Company.

Murray was selected as the grand-prize winner of the Ace Hardware John Madden Fall Football Frenzy contest and won an all-expenses-paid trip to San Diego to attend the big pro championship football game Jan. 26 and meet John Madden, longtime Ace Hardware spokesman and former NFL coach. Murray’s entry was chosen from more than 50,000 entries received.

The tailgate send-off party will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Lumber Company at 600 Tennant Ave. in Morgan Hill. The store will present Murray with an autographed John Madden football and officially send him off as he, along with his wife and daughter, embark on the trip to San Diego.

GILROY – The Gilroy Assistance League is accepting grant requests for 2003. Last year, GALS gave out over $9,000 to various local youth causes, including Brownell Academy Music Department, Gilroy Community Youth Center, GHS Grad Night and St. Joseph’s Family Center.

New Business Seminar

GILROY – Learn how to get started the right way at Gavilan College Small Business Center’s seminar on starting your own business. Artists who teach on exhibit

GILROY – Creative Catalyst is an exhibition currently on display at the Gavilan College Gallery, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., featuring artwork by art educators from Gavilan College and local high schools. Artists exhibiting artwork are Dan Dwyer, Jane Edberg, KC Gonzalez, Jack Johnson, Arthur Juncker, Tim Kelly, Jacqueline Kurtt, Jane Rekedal, Sylvia Rios, Moisés Roizen, Louise Roy and Arturo “r2row” Rosette. Artworks include ceramics, photography, drawings, paintings, fabric, murals, wood and mixed media. The exhibition is on display now through Jan. 25. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and open to the public. On-campus parking is 75 cents. Gala Auction and Dinner

GILROY – Pacific West Christian Academy will hold its sixth annual Spring Gala Auction and Dinner on March 15. The event will be held at San Juan Oaks country Club in San Juan Bautista.
